About the CNA Program
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program is a 96 – 120 hour program designed to help you learn the skills necessary to provide important, quality care. Our CNA training program makes it possible to embark on a rewarding, meaningful career that can make a difference to those in need. The program is made up of both classroom and clinical hours.
CNA is a training program sponsored by Pearl River Community College Workforce Education and is not eligible for college credit. Completion of the course will prepare the student to sit for the NNAAP Exam.
Requirements to Enroll:
- Two Step TB Skin Test
- 10-Panel Drug Screen
- Proof of COVID Vaccine (or Religious Exemption if applicable)

What Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) Do?
Nursing aides, sometimes called nursing attendants or nursing assistants, provide basic care and help with basic living activities. They typically do the following:
- Clean and bathe patients or residents
- Help patients use the toilet and dress
- Turn, reposition, and transfer patients between beds and wheelchairs
- Record patients’ health concerns and report it to nurses
- Measure patients’ vital signs, such as blood pressure and temperature
- Serve meals and help patients eat
In nursing homes, aides and attendants are often the principal caregivers. They have more contact with residents than other members of the staff. Because some residents stay in a nursing home for months or years, aides and attendants may develop close, caring relationships with their patients.
Wages
The median annual wage for nursing assistants, orderlies, and attendants was $30,550 in Mississippi as of October 2023. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less.
Most nursing assistants, orderlies, and attendants work full time. Because nursing homes and hospitals provide care at all hours, nursing assistants and orderlies may need to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
