PRCC’s Wildcat Experience: A Day of Fun and Exploration for Prospective Students

April 26, 2023

Pearl River Community College in Poplarville recently hosted its third Wildcat Experience, an event that drew hundreds of eager high school students to campus. Dobie Holden Stadium was abuzz with excitement as visitors had the opportunity to discover what PRCC has to offer, while enjoying a range of fun activities, food, and short performances from student groups. In addition, families were treated to a special free admission to the afternoon’s baseball doubleheader at Dub Herring Park.

As they came onto the field, prospective students were greeted with a colorful and elaborate Wildcat Experience signage constructed by Sign Gypsies of Pearl River. Bursts of maroon and gold around the Wildcat Den displays and on the goal post of the north endzone came from arches by Ballon Bash. Upbeat music played in the background, creating a festive atmosphere with an assortment of lawn games in constant use.

PRCC faculty and staff across departments and campuses were on hand for attendees to get answers to all their pressing questions. Everything from steps a prospective student needs to take to become a Wildcat to programs and activities available across the three campuses were all housed at booths set up around the field. Many of the booths also had giveaways and snacks for those students who stopped to visit.

Student representatives were present from the Poplarville Campus Student Activities Board and the Baptist Student Union highlighting their activities focused on student life.

Beyond the informational component, those gathered were able to watch the String of Pearls dance team perform one of their routines. Guests were also treated to free refreshments provided by the Wildcat Den.

Everyone was able to see the beautiful Poplarville Campus with tours led by Recruiters and River Navigators.

“The Wildcat Family looks forward to this event every year. It’s a wonderful opportunity to show prospective students how we live our lives the ‘Wildcat Way’ with Pride, Respect, Class, and Character,” said Director of Marketing & Recruitment Kari Eve Valence. “Each department on campus is able to come together and provide knowledge, resources, and a fun experience for all of these future Wildcats so they can see first-hand what to expect once they commit to Pearl River.”
