Pearl River and William Carey partner to offer on-campus dorm options

July 13, 2023

Pearl River Community College and William Carey University are building an exciting partnership to offer students at PRCC’s Forrest County Campus a dorm opportunity through William Carey’s residence halls.

PRCC President Dr. Adam Breerwood, and WCU President, Dr. Ben Burnett, met Thursday on the Forrest County Campus of PRCC to sign an agreement to the partnership.

“A safe, good place to live that is part of a campus atmosphere. That can be so important to a college student’s experience,” said Breerwood. “As we have students come to us from outside of this area, oftentimes it’s hard to find a place to reside. I think this is an exceptional opportunity for our students to be a part of the William Carey Community while attending Pearl River.

“We have a great partnership with William Carey, and now our students can more easily complete our program here and transfer to one of their outstanding programs.”

The first group piloted will be open to 10 PRCC students at the Forrest County Campus. The deadline will remain open until the first 10 pilot vacancies are filled. It’s important to note that PRCC scholarships and financial aid will not cover the rental price. Students interested must complete an application, be enrolled full-time, be in good academic standing with The River, have no disciplinary issues with the institution, and provide a letter of financial commitment witnessed and signed.

“It has to be about what is best for the area, for our citizens, and for the future,” Burnett said. “And this agreement is a shining example of what’s best for this area. These students will leave Pearl River with a great education and will be ready for the next level. We have a ton of Pearl River graduates on our campus, and this will allow us to recruit them as they are living on our campus and utilizing our services.

“Pearl River is a very strong partner of ours led by Dr. Breerwood. We are very proud to continue his love for William Carey through this partnership.”

All parties involved see this as a program that could only grow in the future and provide even more students with residential opportunities while gaining a quality education at Pearl River Community College.

“PRCC is excited about our partnership with William Carey and the opportunity to provide our students housing and dining arrangements,” said Candace Harper, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Business Services. “The William Carey Campus is just minutes from our Forrest County Campus, which includes our academic, allied health, nursing, and career tech departments.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to experience the dorm life and be close to local businesses and industries for potential internships.”

Those interested in this opportunity may visit the Administration Office at the FCC for more information.
