Mike Keith, Assistant Physical Plant Director, was surprised by the announcement he had been selected as the Outstanding Pearl River Community College Employee for April 2023. He was presented with certificates containing his nomination information and several goodies in honor of his hard work.
“I was very surprised to be recognized as the Outstanding PRCC Employee for April,” said Keith. “I am so appreciative and grateful for the opportunity to work here. It truly feels like a home and family.”
Keith’s initial time at The River was as a student from 1982 – 1985 with a focus on business. He came for classes in the morning and then spent his afternoons working for a landscape contractor in Hattiesburg. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Southern Mississippi.
However, his love of landscaping became his career path after receiving a Landscape Gardeners license. He and his wife Renee owned and operated garden centers in Purvis and Sumrall for 25 years while also running a landscaping business. Clients included the City of Hattiesburg and USM.
In September 2020, Keith returned to The River as a landscaping supervisor. In the fall of 2022, he was promoted to Assistant Physical Plant Director.
“Mike Keith is one of the hardest working and greatest men I ever have had the pleasure of working with,” said Director of Physical Plant Robert Vincent. “His Pride, Respect, Class, and Character stand out every day in a true fashioned Wildcat Way.”
PRCC Athletic Director Patrick Ochs nominated Keith for the honor.
“Mr. Mike is one of the most helpful and kind individuals you’ll ever meet!” said Ochs. “He can be elbows deep digging a trench and will have a smile on his face. In my opinion, he’s the epitome of what the Wildcat Way stands for!”
Anyone wishing to nominate a current PRCC employee can do so monthly through the PRCC website at prcc.edu/nominate-prcc-employee/.
