Wildcats in Region 23 Tournament Friday against Meridian at MGCCC

POPLARVILLE Pearl River Wildcat soccer team grabbed a berth in this weekend Region 23 Tournament at Mississippi Gulf Coast in Perkinston, despite losing to MGCCC 1-0 in the MACJC state championship game Sunday in Ridgeland. PRCC, 11-5-1 overall after the title bout loss, will take on Meridian at 6 p.m. Friday in Perkinston with the winner facing MGCCC men, 15-4-1, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for the regional title. The Wildcats nabbed the berth due to an NJCAA mandate that requires any team without a winning record (MCC men finished the regular season at 2-13) must play an additional regional game against the MACJC No. 2 finisher. MCC gets automatic men and women regional berths due to it not being a member of the MACJC. The women Region 23 championship game is set for 5:30 p.m. between MACJC champ MGCCC, 15-4, and Meridian, 7-6-2. The Gulf Coast women defeated Pearl River 1-0 in the state championship game Sunday at Ridgeland.
