POPLARVILLE – Applications are being accepted for two Workforce Training welding classes at Pearl River Community College.
Basic welding and a specialized course in pipe welding will be taught from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, beginning Aug. 10 and ending Nov. 18. Both will be in the Career Education Building welding shop on the Poplarville campus.
Cost for either course is $250. Students in either course must be 18 years old and must provide their own welding shield, gloves and cap, steel-toed shoes, long sleeve shirt, ear plugs and safety glasses.
The basic welding course offers an Industry Recognized Certificate that includes applications for 10-hour OSHA certification, basic lift truck operator OSHA certification and NCCER credentials in Core Curriculum Introductory Craft Skills and welding modules Levels I and II.
Reservations for the class require a clean drug screen at the applicant’s expense, completed PRCC application and a PRCC business office receipt for payment.
Applicants for the pipe welding course must be able to run 3G (vertical) and 4G (overhead) open root welds with at least one of the following processes: SMAW, GMAW or GTAW. Call Cheryl Frierson at 601 403-1113 to schedule a performance test.

Tuition assistance is available to those who qualify through the WIN Job Centers for Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding or the Department of Human Services for SNAP Employment and Training funds.
