Pearl River Community College freshman Jolie Green of Petal has received a $1,500 scholarship from the Mortgage Bankers Association of Mississippi that she hopes will help her follow her mom’s footsteps into the banking field.

Green, 18, attends PRCC’s Forrest County Campus and is majoring in business administration. Her mom, Kellie Jo Newsom, is a mortgage loan officer for The First.

“To receive the bankers association scholarship makes me feel appreciated for my support to them,” said Green. “This scholarship will help me further my education and begin my career in the banking field.”

Green wants to get into real estate and appraising after getting her finance degree on real estate from the University of Southern Mississippi.

“Jolie wants to pursue a career in real estate,” said Dr. Ryan Ruckel, Dean of the William Lewis Honors Institute at the Forrest County Campus. “She speaks her mind, knows what she wants, and works hard to attain it. We are excited to have her in the Honors Institute.”

Green is also a Phi Theta Kappa student at the FCC. She is one of three students to receive the MBA of Mississippi scholarship. She has enjoyed her time at PRCC.

“It’s all about meeting and making new friends while having opportunities to join clubs with those new friends is what excites me while being a student at PRCC,” said Green.
