Local small business owners attended the recent “Digital Marketing and Cybersecurity” workshop. Pearl River Community College hosted the workshop led by Lauren Colby Nickels, an Instructor for the Mississippi State University Extension Center for Technology Outreach.
The information given during the workshop focused on the needs of business owners.
Attendees were given a birds-eye view of the main social media channels with a particular deep dive into the world of Facebook.
Discussion also touched upon online directories where customers often leave reviews, even if the business has not been claimed.
All of the information focused on how to effectively reach current and potential customers on the different channels while painting a positive image of your business.
After engaging conversations where different attendees sought help for their particular needs, Nickels took time to discuss the topic of cybersecurity.
The information was applicable to both businesses and individuals and included identity alerts, password management, dual authentication, types of cyberattacks, and the dark web.
Several participants had fun testing out potential passwords on the Kaspersky website with most coming up short for being secure.
