Nancy Regan named Alumnus of Year

  POPLARVILLE – Nancy Regan of Hattiesburg will be honored as Pearl River Community College Alumnus of the Year during Homecoming festivities on Saturday, Oct. 21.
  Regan will receive the award during the Homecoming Luncheon at 11 a.m. in Olivia Bender Cafeteria and will be recognized on the field at Dobie Holden Stadium before the 2 p.m. football game. The Wildcats will take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs.
  Four alumni and a former coach will be inducted into the PRCC Sports Hall of Fame during the luncheon and will be honored on the field as well. They are coach J.C. Arban of Hattiesburg, All American soccer standout Emmaleigh Davis of Pascagoula, softball pitcher Jessica Dubuisson Morris of Hancock County, football team captain John Feaster of Carriere and baseball slugger Matt Riser of Hammond, La.
  A native of Poplarville, Regan graduated in 1955 from Poplarville High School, at that time on the Pearl River campus. As a Pearl River Junior College student, she was a Wildcat cheerleader and active in several organizations before graduating in 1957. She earned her degree in business technology under her mentor, Mrs. Earlora Holden.
   While at Pearl River, she met fellow student Jack Regan and they were married in 1958. The couple moved to Jackson where she was an executive secretary at Blue-Cross-Blue Shield. The Regans returned to Poplarville in 1966 when Jack began teaching drafting at PRCC and Nancy worked as a savings and loan office manager.
   She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1973 and, on the recommendation of Mrs. Holden, succeeded her mentor as a business instructor. She completed her master’s degree at USM in 1981.
   While chair of the PRCC Business Technology Department, Regan was co-sponsor of Phi Beta Lamba, taught night classes, served as a recruiter, instructed all female students each
semester in the American Cancer Society’s self-awareness breast exam program, traveled to London with the college choir and was a staff volunteer for home ballgames. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma teachers’ organization.
   She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Poplarville, PTA, the Garden Club and the Poplarville Woman’s Club.
   The Regans were active with the Development Foundation and Extravaganza Committee for many years. She received the Distinguished Service Award in 1992. Since retiring, Regan has been active with the Forrest-Lamar County Alumni Chapter and endowed the Jack and Nancy Regan Scholarship following her husband’s death in 2009.
   Her daughters also attended PRCC – Rhonda Regan Flowers was Miss PRCC in 1979 and Susan Regan Barnes was Homecoming Queen in 1983. Two of her five grandchildren are PRCC alumni.
