EUNICE, La. The reigning MACJC state champion Pearl River Lady Wildcats were bombarded with a pair of dominating five-inning setbacks here Tuesday, falling to the LSU-Eunice Lady Bengals 11-1 and 13-1. PRCC evened its 2011 overall record to 4-4 with the losses, while LSU-E improved to 15-4. In the first game of the doubleheader, the Lady Wildcats went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Bengals blew it open in the bottom of the second with a seven-run barrage before following with two runs in the third and two in the fourth. After Pearl River blanked in the top of the fifth, the game ended via the 10-run rule. LSU-E starter Heather Abshire got the win in going the distance, giving up a mere two hits, striking out five, and walking one. PRCC starter Sheila Hall (2-2) of Dutchtown (La.) High got the loss in her two-and-one-thirds innings on the mound, walking two; while Heather Hester of Hancock County High relieved in the third. She struck out two and walked four. Janessa Dedeaux of Poplarville High and Hester (one RBI) both singled for The River. Karli Wainwright paced the Lady Bengals six-hit effort with two base hits, while Abshire crushed a two-run homer, Haley McCall doubled, and Ashley Taylor and Terrisita Vallery both singled. Pearl River committed three errors in the game, while LSU-Eunice played mistake-free. In the nightcap, things were knotted at 1-1 after one frame, but the Lady Bengals scored three in the bottom of the second, seven in the third, and two in the fourth to take the 12-run victory via the 10-run rule. Starter Tina Schulz got the win in going the distance, giving up five hits and striking out five, while Hester (2-2) got the loss. She also went the distance, giving up nine hits, striking out five, and walking three. Jordan Adams of DIberville High led PRCC with a pair of singles (one RBI), while Brandy Rester of Poplarville High, Samantha Spence of George County High, and ETrareo Warren of Meridian High all singled. Both Abshire and Vallery doubled and singled to pace LSU-E, while Taylor and Wainwright had two base hits each. Leah Andrus, Schulz, and Chaney Trahan all singled. The Lady Wildcats committed four errors in the contest to the Lady Bengals one defensive miscue. The Lady Wildcats return to action Thursday when they play host to MACJC non-division foe Mississippi Delta in a 3 p.m. doubleheader before opening South Division play Wednesday, March 2, against Hinds in Raymond (1 p.m. doubleheader).
