POPLARVILLE – The barbering program shop at Pearl River Community College opened Monday, Sept. 19, and the cosmetology salon will open Monday, Sept. 26. Both are located in the physical plant building.
The barber shop is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. with students working under the supervision of instructor Tyrone McLaurin.
Haircuts are $3 for the public and $1 for students with prices varying for other services. Military with valid ID will receive free haircuts. Walk-ins are welcome.
The cosmetology salon will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday through October and Monday through Thursday beginning in November. Students work under the supervision of instructor Michelle Patterson.
A sample of prices includes:
Haircut, $4; free haircuts for military.
Beard or mustache trim, $2.
Shampoo and blow dry or wrap, $4; shampoo and roller set, twist braids, fingerwave or scrunch, $6; shampoo and spiral or twist set, $10.
Braids, dreads or cornrows, $17.
Facial, $15; brow or lip waxing, $3.
Permanent wave or jeri curl, $15; spiral or piggy back, $20.
Permanent color, $15; highlights, $15; two-color highlights, $18.
Manicure, $8; pedicure, $20.
Prices for students are half of the public price in most cases.
