Carriere artists' work on display

POPLARVILLE – Casual conversation at a water aerobics class led to three Carriere women renewing their interest in art and improving their techniques through classes at Pearl River Community College.
As they exercised, Annette Lestremau overheard Diane Richard and Gail Sheasby talking about enrolling in a class a year ago.
“I turned around and said, ‘May I come with you?’,” Lestremau said.
The three have been taking art classes from PRCC instructor Charleen Null for a year and currently have works on display in the Moody Hall gallery.
“I was thrilled to find someone who likes to do what I do,” Sheasby said.
The women frequently are joined by 92-year-old Carol Moses and all have been active in the Senior Center in Picayune.
Although they haven’t taken art classes in years, three of the women have had formal training.
Moses studied art and art history at Louisiana State University, Sheasby studied under New Orleans artists Carl Cramer and Greg Chappell and Lestremau attended the John McCrady School of Art in New Orleans.
“I did a little bit in Virginia, but it wasn’t classes,” Richard said.
Their works are on display in the art gallery on the first floor of Moody Hall on the PRCC campus in Poplarville. The exhibit will be up through the end of October and will be open for viewing during homecoming activities on Saturday, Oct. 29.
