Breerwood named to MBJ’s prestigous Top 40 Under 40

 Adam Breerwood           POPLARVILLE — Dr. Adam Breerwood, Pearl River Community College’s Vice President for Poplarville campus and Hancock Center has been selected as one of Mississippi’s top 40 business leaders under the age of 40.
            The Mississippi Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 program seeks to identify and recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to the state’s overall economic progress, often working at their own local levels.
            Breerwood affiliation with PRCC            started some two decades ago when he signed a scholarship with the Wildcat baseball team after his graduation from St. Stanislaus College in 1993.
            A Waveland native, he earned All-MACJC and All-Region 23 baseball honors the 1994 and 1995 seasons and is .416 batting average in 1995 remains the all-time record at the school.
            After his stint at Pearl River, Breerwood signed with the William Carey University Crusader baseball team where he earned All-Gulf South Atlantic Conference and All-Region honors in 1996 and 1997, as well as All-American status his senior season.
            Breerwood earned his B.S. degree in history in 1997 and his M.Ed. in education in 1999 from WCU, as well as his Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2003.
            He was hired as Pearl River’s assistant baseball coach in 1997 and served in that role until 2002. In addition, he was head coach of the college’s inaugural women’s and men’s soccer programs in 1999 and served in that capacity until 2003.
            In his final season as a coach, Breerwood’s men’s team won the MACJC and Region 23 championships, which resulted in his being named ‘Coach of the Year’ that season. In addition, he was inducted in the PRCC Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.
            He served as the college’s assistant director of recruitment and orientation in 2002 before being promoted to director in 2003. A year later, he was named dean of student services, while last year he was promoted to his current role.
 
            Breerwood is a 2008 graduate of the American Association of Community Colleges Future President’s Institute and a 2010 graduate of Leadership Mississippi. He is the current President of the Rotary Club of Poplarville and serves on the Boards of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Pearl River County Crimestoppers.
            He has been married to the former Shana Scarborough for 16 years and they are the parents of daughter Lexey, age 13, and son Blaise, age 12. Shana works for the college’s development foundation.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
