Wildcats sweep Bears

BATON ROUGE, La. Pearl River Wildcats swept Baton Rouge Bears 4-3, 4-3 in intrastate community college baseball action here Saturday.PRCC improved to 6-2 overall with the sweep, while BRCC dropped to 8-9.In the first game, the Wildcats went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning before the host Bears regained the lead with a pair of solo runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth frames.The River took the lead for good in the top of the eighth with a three-run barrage while Baton Rouge scored the game final run in the bottom the ninth.Trace Robinson (2-0) picked up the win after relieving in the seventh, giving up one hit; while Ryan Deemes started and went six innings, giving up seven hits, and striking out three. Tyler Jordan also relieved in the seventh, walking a batter; while Scott Ashford got the save in the eighth, giving up three hits.Jeff Lasage (0-1) was the losing pitcher after relieving in the eighth, giving up two hits; while Jesse Buratt started and went seven-and-two-thirds, giving up five hits, striking out seven, and walking two. Jacob Gentry pitched the ninth, striking out two.Austin Carter paced the Wildcats seven-hit effort with a pair of doubles, while Chase Toussaint doubled and singled, Krisjon Wilkerson doubled, and Braxton Lee and Chase Lewallen both had base hits.The Bears finished with 11 hits all singles with Bond Babin, Lee Elisar, and Jacob Williams getting two base hits a piece, while Robert Parker Jr., James Rachel, Tanner Sheets, Bryce Sibille, and Matthew Williams got one single a piece.PRCC committed one error in the game to BRCC two.In the nightcap game, Baton Rouge led 2-0 after two with solo runs in the first and second innings; while Pearl River scored runs in the third, fourth, and sixth frames to got up 3-2 before adding its final run in the top of the eighth.BRCC scored one in the bottom of the inning for the game final run.Starter Christian Talley (1-0) was the winning pitcher, going six innings and giving up seven hits, striking out six, and walking one; Tyler Summers relieved in the seventh, giving up a hit, striking out two, and walking two. Anthony Lusco arrived in the eighth and closed it out, striking out two.Baton Rouge starter Jacob Williams (0-1) got the loss, pitching five-and-two-thirds, giving up six hits and striking out two; while Cole Vanderlick relieved in the sixth. He went two innings, giving up two hits and striking out two; while Stephen Pennick pitched one-third of the eighth and Elisar two-thirds of the same inning beforeChristian McMorris arrived in the ninth.Carter paced Pearl River eight-hit attack with a double and two singles, while Toussaint tripled, Chad Livingston doubled, and Kollin Cannon, Aaron Lee, and Braxton Lee all had base hits.Baton Rouge also had eight hits, led by Buratt and Sheets who both doubled and singled; while Grant Autherment doubled, and Blake Hymel, Andre Landry, and Robert Parker Jr. all singled.The Wildcats committed on error in the game to the Bears three.Pearl River returns when it heads to MACJC non-division rival East Mississippi in Scooba Friday, March 2, for a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
