POPLARVILLE - Randy Bubba Pierce cant explain the reasons he wrote and published a novel, Pain Unforgiven. But he knows there are reasons he completed only four pages in 1998 and didnt get back to writing until 2009.I believe I wrote this book at the right time and I dont know why, Pierce told the Rotary Club of Poplarville during its Aug. 17 meeting at Pearl River Community College.Set in his hometown of Leakesville, the novel tells the story of a murder trial and its impact on Grant Hicks, a high school student who leaves home, vowing never to return. Years later, the dying request of the accused murder, who has since been exonerated, forces Hicks to return home and confront the past. This is a book about self discovery, Pierce said. It a book about redemption. It going to make you cry. It not going to win a Pulitizer Prize or anything like that, but it a compelling story.Although set in his hometown with real place names, the story itself is fiction, he said.Pierce graduated from Greene County High School and Jones County Junior College before receiving both bachelor and master degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. He became a Certified Public Accountant and earned a law degree from the University of Mississippi Law School where he was student body president.Returning home to practice law, Pierce was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives from District 105. He served from 1999 to 2005 and was chairman of the House Education Committee and the Appropriations Subcommitee on Public Education.Pierce served as a judge in the 16th Chancery Court District of George, Greene and Jackson counties and was elected to the state Supreme Court in 2008.A self-described workaholic, Pierce attributes his writing abilities to growing up in Greene County.I grew up in a family of storytellers, he said. I had this wonderful imagination that had to have been inherited through Pierce genes.
