PRCC pitching prevails in doubleheader sweep

Pearl River Community College used a pair of standout pitching performances to cruise past Alabama Southern in a pair of wins Saturday in junior college softball at Wildcat Stadium.

Freshman Olivia Holley pitched a five-inning shutout as the Wildcats won the opener 9-0, then sophomore Jackie Shows hurled a two-hitter as PRCC completed the sweep in a 4-0 win in the nightcap.

Pearl River improved to 6-4 overall; Alabama Southern dropped to 2-16.

PRCC duo named to MACJC Softball All-State Team

POPLARVILLE – Two members of the 2016 Pearl River Community College softball team have been recognized as MCAJC All-State selections.

Sophomore Mary Grace Key and freshman Kristen Martin were named as part of the 28-player 2016 All-State Team, as selected by league coaches.

Key, who came to PRCC from Union, Miss., and played for Leake Academy, spent most of the season as the Wildcats’ starting third baseman. She batted .290 with 5 doubles, 1 triple and 19 RBIs, and was 8 of 9 in stolen bases.

PRCC softball features another winning season, playoff berth

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College had another successful softball season in 2016, a winning season along with another MACJC playoff berth.

But a season that began with tremendous promise fell short of expectations, as the Wildcats finished 24-23 and 14-14 in conference play. PRCC claimed the No. 8 spot in the MACJC playoffs, but was eliminated by top-seeded Jones County in two games in the first-round playoff series.

PRCC softball season ends after Jones sweeps MACJC first-round series

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College saw its 2016 softball season come to an end sooner than hoped for this past weekend, as the Wildcats were eliminated from the MACJC Tournament.

Top-seeded Jones County used superior pitching from sophomore Rachel Hayes to handcuff the Wildcats in a pair of defeats, 8-0 and 8-5, in the first round of the MACJC Tournament at Community Bank Park in Ellisville.

PRCC opens softball playoffs with best-of-three series at Jones County

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College will open the 2016 MACJC playoffs on Friday with Game 1 of a best-of-three game series against Jones County.

First pitch at Community Bank Park in Ellisville is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday. Game 2 of the series is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, and Game 3, if needed, will be played immediately after the second game.

JCJC (37-6 overall, 26-2 conference) is the top-seeded team in the eight-team playoff field, with PRCC (24-21, 14-14) as the No. 8 seed.

PRCC softball sweeps Mississippi Delta to earn MACJC playoff berth

POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College is once again in the MACJC softball playoffs after sweeping a doubleheader over Mississippi Delta Monday at Moorhead.

PRCC won the first game 16-3 and earned the sweep with a 16-0 victory in the nightcap. The games were a make-up doubleheader that had been postponed from earlier this season. The Wildcats finished the regular season 24-21 overall and 14-14 in conference play.
