POPLARVILLE – The magic of Christmas Eve of old returns to Poplarville on Dec. 20 and 21 with the South Mississippi Ballet Theatre’s production of The Nutcracker.
Show times are 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Brownstone Center for the Arts on the campus of Pearl River Community College.
With elaborate costumes, magnificent sets and professional dancing, thes holiday classic will delight audiences of any age with the story of a family Christmas Eve celebration in the 1800s.
Guest dancer Dmitry Konibolotskiy will portray the role of Herr Drosselmeyer. Arkadiy Orohovsky, co-founder of the South Mississippi Ballet, will dance the Sugarplum Cavalier role. Guest dancer Meredith Garrison will portray the Snow Queen and Dewdrop Fairy.
Three area dancers will share the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy while three others share the role of Clara. Dancers from throughout South Mississippi appear in the ballet.
Arkadiy and Katya Orohovsky founded the South Mississippi Ballet Theatre in 2010 in Hattiesburg.
Tickets for the ballet are $15 and $10 and are available at www.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 601 403-1180 before 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19. Walk-up tickets will be sold an hour before the show at the center’s box office.
