Audiences Delight in Clue’s Mystery and Mayhem at PRCC Production

April 10, 2024

The Brownstone Center for the Arts was transported back to 1954 in the Washington, D. C. area with Pearl River Community College’s Riverside Players’ theatrical production of “Clue.” The two evening performances, held on April 3 and 4, 2025, drew hundreds of community members, family, and friends to enjoy the fun, campy show set during the height of McCarthyism and the Red Scare.

Based on the Paramount Pictures Motion Picture inspired by the Hasbro board game Clue, the production features six dinner guests — Miss Scarlet, Mrs. White, Professor Plum, Mrs. Peacock, Colonel Mustard, and Mr. Green — derived from the board game. They gather at Boddy Manor under aliases and are warned not to share their real names.

Shortly after their arrival, they learn that they have all been blackmailed by their host, Mr. Boddy, and are given gifts by the butler, Wadsworth. These gifts are the different weapons ultimately used for murder: a candlestick, a dagger, a lead pipe, a revolver, a piece of rope, and a wrench.

What follows is an evening of chaos and murder as the characters race around an often-dark mansion trying to answer the question, “Whodunit?” None of the dinner guests are murdered, but rather Mr. Boddy, Yvette (the maid), the cook, a motorist, a singing telegram girl, and an unexpected cop all perish. The ending then walks you through all the possible scenarios with the last ending being the one many movie fans consider cannon.

PRCC Director of Theatre Cory Squires directed the production.

“I am so proud of how this cast and crew came together to pull off this extremely difficult show.,” said Squires.

Heather Marie Gibboney of Poplarville attended the Thursday evening performance with her husband, Brian, and son, Drew. As longtime fans of the movie, they were eager to experience it live on stage.

“To see Clue performed live was a treat — they hit every funny part,” said Gibboney. “The performance of Colonel Mustard was absolutely spot on! The Singing Telegram was perfect. Mrs. White will always be my favorite character in the movie and she was amazing in the play tonight. Great job to all of them!”
