POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College women”s basketball standout Brittany Weathers has signed with the University of Southern Mississippi Lady Golden Eagles for the 2010-2011 season.Weathers, a 6-foot forward who prepped at Oak Grove High School, averaged 14.8 points and 7.2 rebounds for head coach Toby Bush”s squad this past season. Weathers signed with Gulf Coast CC (Fla.) out of high school where she played her freshman season.During her prep career, she was an all-state performer for coach Amy Mitchell, where she averaged 25 points, nine rebounds, and six assists a game.”I”m excited to have a hometown girl to be a part of our program,” said Southern Miss head coach Joye Lee-McNelis. “Brittany brings us excellent versatility and we expect her to play at the No. 3 or No. 4 spot because she has the talent to score from the perimeter, as well as the ability to finish around the basket.”Bush echoed the USM mentor”s sentiments.”Brittany”s a tremendous basketball talent,” he said. “She can do it all. She can score inside or outside and has a great three-point touch. Southern Miss has got them a good one.”Weathers is the seventh Lady Eagle signee this year.
