POPLARVILLE The reigning MACJC state softball champion Pearl River Lady Wildcats swept Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans 15-3, 3-0 here Thursday. PRCC improved to 6-4 overall with the wins, while MDCC remains winless at0-8. In the first game, the Lady Trojans went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Wildcats answered with three in the bottom of the frame before adding three in the second, three in the third, and six in the fourth. MDCC scored a solo run in the top of the fourth. After Delta was scoreless in the top of the fifth, the game was called via the 10-run rule. Starter Sheila Hall (3-2) of Dutchtown (La.) High got the win in going the five-inning distance, giving up three hits, striking out eight and walking six; while Terra West started for MDCC and went the distance. She struck out two and walked two. Devan Reese doubled for the Lady Trojans, while Madison Simpson and Jessica West-Robinson both had base hits. Jordan Adams of DIberville High paced the Lady Wildcats 19-hit barrage with a home run and two doubles (six RBIs), while Brittney Gary of Slidell (La.) High had two doubles and a single (one RBI). Heather Hester of Hancock County High (four RBIs), Brandy Rester of Poplarville High (two RBIs), and Samantha Spence of George County High (one RBI) had three singles a piece; while Tiffany Reed of Picayune High had two base hits (one RBI) and Janessa Dedeaux of Poplarville High and ETrareo Warren of Meridian High both had singles. Each team committed two errors in the game. In the nightcap, Pearl River scored two in the bottom of the first and one in the second to take the shutout win. Starter Hester (3-2) got the win in going the distance, giving up three hits, striking out eight, and walking four; while Reese got the loss. She gave up six hits,struck out four, walked one, and hit a batter. Caitlin Carroll, Erica Mims, and Alison Reed all singled for the Lady Trojans, while Rester and Spence had two singles each for the Lady Wildcats. Adams had a two-run homer, while Dedeaux had an RBI double. PRCC played error free, while MDCC committed two defensive miscues. Pearl River resumes action when it opens its MACJC South Division schedule Wednesday against Hinds in Raymond (1 p.m. doubleheader) before hosting LSU-Eunice Friday, March 4 (4 p.m. doubleheader).
