Fine Arts Service Scholarships

About

Each student that participates in the instrumental, vocal, and drama programs at Pearl River is eligible for a service scholarship*. Scholarships are awarded for a maximum of six semesters and do not have to be taken during consecutive semesters. Service scholarships within the Department of Fine Arts and Communications can be “stacked” with academic, other service scholarships, and State and Federal financial aid.

PRCC Spirit of the River

"Outstanding Musician" Scholarship

In addition, the Department of Fine Arts and Communications awards instrumental area “Outstanding Musicians” scholarships. Students audition through their director to qualify for a potential “Outstanding Musician” scholarship. 

Available Scholarships

The Spirit of the River is a vital part of the campus performing at football games, campus events, parades, and in exhibition at area marching competitions.

The “Jazz Cats” tours the district high schools during the Spring semester and performs at various school and civic functions.

The PRCC Wind Ensemble and Concert Band performs and rehearses during the Spring semester of each academic year. The Wind Ensemble gives a concert at the Pearl River Regional Band Clinic and both the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will give an end of semester concert.

Auditions are held in the beginning of each fall semester.

Honors Brass Quintet

The PRCC Honors Brass Quintet performs at functions on and off campus. In addition, it will be a recruiting ensemble that will travel to local high schools to represent PRCC in recruiting efforts.

Pep Band

The PRCC Pep Band performs during home basketball games during the spring semester. 

$300 Service Award (Spring Semester)

  • Auditioned group of 50-60 singers (includes all members of The Voices, Currents, and Rapids).
  • ¾ tuition service award each semester.
  • Sings a variety of traditional choral literature.
  • Performs approximately 4-5 concerts annually.
  • Meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:15 – 1:30; One Friday morning rehearsal each month.
  • Audition dates will be added at a later date.
  • Auditions are either in person or via ZOOM made by appointment with Dr. Tyson.
  • Singers should prepare a song (any genre, with or without accompaniment) and demonstrate tonal memory skills.

  • Auditioned group of 10-14 singers (must also participate in PRCC Singers).
  • ¾ tuition service award each semester.
  • Sings contemporary a cappella music.
  • Performs approximately 25 – 30 times annually.
  • Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:15 – 1:30; One Friday morning rehearsal each month.
  • Opportunities for travel and recording projects.
  • Round One Auditions: February 26 – March 8, 2024.
    • Video yourself singing 90 seconds of a pop/rock song.
    • Upload the video to YouTube as an unlisted link and email the link to ltyson@prcc.edu.
    • The email should also include: your name, email address, high school, preferred singing part.
  • Round Two Auditions (callbacks): March 26, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. in the PRCC choir room.
    • Invitations for callbacks and Information regarding the round two procedures will be emailed on March 11, 2024.

  • Auditioned advanced treble ensemble of 10– 14 singers (must also participate in PRCC Singers).
  • ¾ tuition service award each semester.
  • Sings both traditional choral music and other genres.
  • Performs approximately 7-10 times annually.
  • Meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:50 12:00; One Friday rehearsal each month.
  • Some opportunities for travel
  • Auditions:
    • You must first audition for PRCC Singers or The Voices to be considered for Currents.
    • Invitations and audition materials will be sent on March 18, 2024.
    • Auditions will be held April 2,2024, at 4:00 in the choir room.

  • Auditioned tenor/bass ensembles of 10 -14 singers (must also participate in PRCC Singers).
  • ¾ tuition service award each semester.
  • Sings both traditional choral music and other genres.
  • Performs approximately 4 -6 time annually.
  • Meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:50 – 12:00; One Friday morning rehearsal each month.
  • Auditions:
    • You must first audition for PRCC Singers or The Voices to be considered for Rapids.
    • Invitations and audition materials will be sent on March 18, 2024.
    • Auditions will be held April 2, 2024, at 3:00 in the choir room.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
