Register now for workforce night courses

  POPLARVILLE – Pearl River Community College is offering four workforce classes at night in three locations during the spring semester
  Welding will meet from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Jan. 11 through April 27, at the welding shop in the Career Education Building on the  Poplarville campus.
  Welding also will be taught from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, Jan. 19 through May 31, at the welding shop at the Carl Loftin Career and Technology Center, 1140 Highway 13 South in Columbia
  Both courses offer an industry recognized certificate in welding, including applications for 10-hour OSHA certification, for basic lift truck operator OSHA certification and for NCCER credentials in Core Curriculum Introductory Craft Skills and Level I and II welding modules. Cost is $250.
  Applicants must be 18 before classes start and must provide welding shield, gloves and cap, steel-toed shoes, long sleeve shirt, ear plugs and safety classes.
  Applications can be obtained from Cheryl Frierson by calling 601 403-1113. The application must be submitted along with a clean drug screen at the applicant’s expense and a receipt from the PRCC business office for the $250 fee to Sheila Smith at the Career Education Building on the Poplarville campus.
  •A pipefitting course, which also costs $250, will meet from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Jan. 11 through April 28, at the Forrest County Center welding shop.
  The course offers the industry recognized certificate in pipefitting, including applications for 10-hour OSHA certification, basic lift truck operator OSHA certification and NCCER credentials in core curriculum’s introductory craft skills, Level I and Level II pipefitting.
  The application can be obtained by calling Frierson at 601 403-1113.
  Applicants must be 18 years old before Jan. 11. A spot in the class requires a CRC certificate rated silver or better, clean drug screen at the student’s expense, receipt from the business office in Poplarville or the Woodall Center in Hattiesburg for payment in full and completed application. Students must supply their own welding shield, gloves and cap, steel-toed shoes, long sleeve shirt, ear plugs and safety glasses.
Applications must be turned in to Frierson in the Technology Center on the Poplarville campus.
  CRC testing is offered free of charge at the Woodall Center, 601 554-4646.
  WIA tuition is assistance is available to qualified applicants for the welding and pipefitting classes through WIN Job Centers.   •A basic masonry course will meet from 5 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, starting Jan. 12 and ending April 28, at the masonry shop on the Poplarville campus.
  The course offers a masonry tender/helper certificate, which includes applications for 10-hour OSHA certification, basic lift truck OSHA certification and NCCER credentials in core curriculum and masonry Level 1 modules (introduction to masonry, tools and equipment and safety).
  Cost is $150, and students must be 18 before the class starts. Students must have steel-toed boots and safety glasses.
  Applications can be obtained by calling Frierson at 601 403-1113. The completed application must be turned in along with a clean drug screen at the student’s expense and a receipt from the PRCC business office for payment in full. The documents must be turned in to Sheila Smith in the Career Education Building on the Poplarville campus.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
