October 30, 2024

Pearl River Community College freshman radiology student Benjamin Phillips firmly believes that hard work pays off if you work hard enough, you can be anywhere you want to be.

“Being a student at PRCC has given me a head start in my future career by allowing me to become a student technologist,” said Phillips. “I’m able to get hands-on experience with skilled professionals and practice what we learn during class in real-world situations.”

Phillips, 27, a student in the PRCC Radiology program at the Forrest County Campus, was recently recognized by the Radiology and Radiation Oncology program at Forrest General Hospital as Student Diagnostic Radiology Technologist of the month.

According to Shannon Vega, Radiology and Radiation Oncology program director at Forrest General, the Radiology department has named an employee of the month for three years.

“(Phillips) is our first employee student tech to receive the award,” said Vega.

“Benjamin is an ideal employee, hardworking, motivated, and reliable. He is setting a great example for other student radiology techs learning this profession. His positive attitude is infectious.”

Phillips, of Houston, Texas, is a first-year student who the manager, supervisors and staff praise for his work ethic.

Said Vega, “Shane Brooks, our manager, says Benjamin was one of the best employee interviews she’s been in.”

Phillips gives PRCC credit for steering him in the right direction.

“Receiving this award lets me know that my hard work is paying off and that after I graduate, I will be able to add value to my future workplace and the patients we treat,” said Phillips.

After graduation, he wants to explore other options in the field, or maybe even teach.
