PRCC expands business marketing program

HATTIESBURG – Students planning to pursue an Associate in Applied Science degree in Business Marketing and Management Technology at Pearl River Community College will have several class options available to them in the spring semester. One option will be the addition of two business marketing day classes on Tuesday and Thursday that will be taught at the Lowery Woodall Advanced Technology Center in Hattiesburg. They include personal selling and entrepreneurship. The instructor is Delana Harris. These classes are in addition to the new online degree program that began this fall in the Business Marketing and Management Technology department. In light of the changing times and growing demands of working students, Pearl River has included more of these non-traditional class formats as part of its course offerings, said Dr. Scott Alsobrooks, vice president for economic and community development. The college is proud to announce that students have the availability to earn an associate degree completely online through the Business Marketing and Management Technology department. Students who enroll in the program will receive online instruction in various areas of marketing, business, and management. The curriculum is comprised of 12 core marketing courses and 10 academic courses. Upon completion of the degree; students can pursue careers in the field of sales, human resource management, retail management, advertising, and a variety of other related areas. Although a number of students earn a degree and seek employment after graduation, many who complete the marketing program continue their education at a senior college or university. The University of Southern Mississippi offers a bachelor of science degree in Applied Technology and will accept up to 36 hours of technical electives from the Business Marketing and Management program offered at Pearl River. Students who are interested in pursuing this degree must meet all admission requirements and be accepted by the university. Mississippi University for Women has developed an online bachelor of technology degree with concentrations in entrepreneurship, business and management. This degree from MUW V-3 College accepts the Business Marketing and Management courses from Pearl River. Together, these two universities along with the marketing program at PRCC are making it easier than ever for students to gain the skills and knowledge needed for the competitive market place today, said Harris, a PRCC graduate. Students who enroll in the business marketing program online can also appreciate its affordability. For most students financial aid is available and covers online course work just the same as traditional classes. Students who enroll in 12 hours or more will be considered full-time and can enjoy additional savings.
