PRCC Adult Education program offers pathways for adult needing learning skills

National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week raises public awareness of adult education and family literacy nationally.
Pearl River Community College offers Adult Education Programs throughout its six-county district providing free classes to adults, ages 17 years of age or older who are not enrolled in school. It’s district includes Forrest, Lamar, Marion, Jeff Davis, Pearl River and Hancock counties.
Adult education classes are often referred to as education’s “best kept secret.” National Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) week is an opportunity for us to elevate public awareness of adult educational programs within PRCC.
“When we think of a person’s journey through the educational system, we typically think of a straight road or path,” said Terri Clark, PRCC’s Director of Adult Education. “This is a journey that starts in kindergarten, continues through college and ends up in a productive well-paying job. But is this always the case? No. Indeed, for millions of Americans, the journey through education is far from being a straight path.
“In Mississippi, we have one of the highest dropout rates in the country. Who are they? Most of us know them… they are our workers, our neighbors, our family and our friends. A variety of adult educational pathways are needed to help the large number of parents, workers and community members who need foundational skills to continue on their educational journey.”
The adult education program at PRCC is providing a wide range of program opportunities to offer pathways for adults ranging from literacy to high school equivalent (GED) prep classes.
GED Testing Services will be running a Back to School Fall Promotion to help boost GED test-taker confidence. From Sept. 21 through Oct. 31, students can take advantage of these of these two offers:

  1. GED READY Practice test for $1 (www.gedtestingservice.com)
  2. GED READY Practice test Guarantee: Students who take the GED READY Practice test and score “Likely to Pass” are guaranteed to pass that test subject of the real test… or their retake is FREE.
