Piano recital set for Brownstone Center

  POPLARVILLE – Award-winning pianist Dr. Ellen Price Elder will present a guest piano recital at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the Ethel Holden Brownstone Center for the Arts at Pearl River Community College.
  Elder, assistant professor of piano at the University of Southern Mississippi, will play English Suite No. 3 in G Minor by J.S. Bach and transcriptions of vocal songs by Schubert/Liszt, Chopin/Liszt and Glinka/Balakirev.
  At USM, Elder is the coordinator of the piano accompanying program, teaches applied piano, class piano and collaborates with faculty and guest artists. She founded the Southern Miss Piano Institute in 2011 to offer private lessons to pre-college students and adults in the community. Her college and pre-college students receive numerous awards and honors for their performance.
  She holds the D.M.A. in piano pedagogy and performance and the M.M. in piano performance and literature from the University of Michigan. She received her B.M. in piano performance from USM where she studied with Stanley Waldoff.  She has served on the faculties of the University of Michigan, the University of Michigan-Dearborn, Eastern Michigan University, Schoolcraft College and William Carey University.
  She has been featured as soloist with The University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and the University of Michigan Philharmonia Orchestra, as winner of the concerto competitions at those institutions. She has performed as soloist with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, the Mississippi Symphony Chamber Orchestra, and the Hattiesburg City Band.
  The recital is free and open to the public.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
