POPLARVILLE, Miss — More than 100 Pearl River Community College Career and Technical students from dozens of programs on the Poplarville campus and Forrest County Center packed rooms on Tuesday to hear about available oil field job opportunities.

Glen Houston, who is a recruiter for the oil field company Schlumberger, spoke with students about the various possibilities for employment within the company and what prospective opportunities Pearl River students could move into upon graduation.

Several past PRCC graduates have already been recruited for employment with Schlumberger.

“We already have six Pearl River students working for us,” Houston said. “They have been hard workers for us and we wanted to come back and invite more of you to consider joining our company once you graduate.

“You are in the perfect position to start careers with a company that can take you to where you want to go.”

SCHLUMBERGER

Schlumberger employs more than 117,000 people and considers its employees its greatest asset. Founded in 1926, Schlumberger has grown to become the number one provider of technology to the oil and gas industry.

Houston told Pearl River students he was looking for good listeners, creative thinkers, adaptable workers, team players and employees that stand up and represent themselves.

“They are specifically looking for our students,” Dean of Career and Technical Education Ed Pinero said. “They like their background, they like their work ethic and they like what they’ve been taught at the college.”

“Schlumberger recently came to visit our CTE programs to talk about what it would take to be successful and the benefits of working with them,” said Department Chair and Instructor of Electronics Engineering Technology James David Collum. “Last year, Schlumberger identified our new industrial electronics program at the FCC as a good match for the skills they need for their wire technicians. In the Spring of 2019, they interviewed seven graduates of the industrial electronics program and with all of them receiving job offers.”

This is just one of several opportunities Pearl River’s career and technical students have for lining jobs up before they even get their diploma in hand. Pearl River CTE students have an 85 percent job placement rate upon graduation.

“The school looks out for us and always makes sure we have a good job waiting on us when we graduate,” PRCC student Caleb Dorn said.
