Miss PRCC Gabrielle Lewis excited to compete in Miss Mississippi

Pearl River Community College’s Miss PRCC, Gabrielle Lewis, is a candidate in this week’s Miss Mississippi Scholarship Competition in Vicksburg.

“I am very excited to start this week,” Lewis said. “Rehearsals and getting to meet all of the other candidates has been so much fun. I am so glad I get to represent one of my favorite places. I’m here making sure our Wildcat Roar is being heard all the way in Vicksburg.”

Lewis, a Poplarville native, attended PRCC for two years before transferring to the University of Southern Mississippi where her major is World Languages (Spanish.) Her Social Impact Initiative for the competition is to begin Spanish and American Sign Language Programs in the Poplarville School System. Her talent is American Sign Language Interpretive Movement.

Lewis was a regular on PRCC’s academic honor roll, was a part of the Dr. William Lewis Honor Institute at PRCC, a part of USM’s Honors Institute, is a Phi Theta Kappa Scholar and was a part of the All Mississippi Academic Team. Her ultimate educational goal is to receive her doctorate in Spanish with a concentration in Linguistics.

“I have known Gabrielle as a college student working as a tutor in Student Support Services, I have known her as a summer intern at our church at First Baptist of Poplarville and I see her now carrying the title of our proud Miss Pearl River Community College,” Miss PRCC Local Miss Mississippi Director, Lauren Baker, said. “In all of Gabrielle’s roles, I have seen her be genuine, kind, loyal and focused. She sets her eyes on her path through God and works toward His plan. Being her Director, I am proud of the young lady she was and even more proud of the Christian leader she has become. She fights for others and holds her head high.

“We are proud of her.”

The preliminary competition will take place Wednesday through Friday with crowing on Saturday. Those interested in cheering on Lewis in her endeavors can stream the event for a fee at www.missmisslive.com. Supporters can also vote for Lewis for the Miss Mississippi Viewer’s Choice Award.
