Meghan Merritt named Outstanding PRCC Employee for September 2022

Meghan Merritt, Instructor of Marketing Management Technology at Pearl River Community College, was surprised by several co-workers with the announcement she had been selected as Outstanding PRCC Employee for September 2022. She was given certificates containing her nomination information and several goodies in honor of her hard work.

Merritt works alongside Katie Ball, Department Chair and Instructor of Marketing Management Technology.

“Meghan is a joy to work with,” said Ball. “She brings so many new ideas to our department and is always willing to lend a hand when help is needed. She is a phenomenal instructor in the classroom and a mentor to many of our students. We are lucky to have her on our team!”

Dr. Amy Townsend, Dean of Career Technical Education on the Poplarville Campus agrees.

“Meghan is a joy to work with and I’m so honored she’s a part of our CTE team,” said Townsend. “She always has time for her students, continually seeks ways to help others, and has a passion for teaching. I can’t wait to see all the ways she will excel!”

Merritt is in her second year as an instructor. Prior to teaching, she served as a Recruiter based on the Poplarville Campus.

“It means so much to be selected as an Outstanding PRCC Employee for September,” said Merritt. “Above all, I love meeting with my students and learning about their backgrounds, interests, and goals. Interacting with students daily and understanding what motivates and inspires them is one of the most rewarding jobs. I look forward to serving as a mentor and educating students for years to come! “

Merritt spent time as a dual enrolled student at PRCC in 2012 taking marketing courses.

“Although I graduated from USM with my undergraduate degree in business, I was very excited to come back home to Poplarville, MS, to join the Wildcat family as a Recruiter in 2019. The institution encourages its philosophy to students during their time on our campus: Pride, Respect, Class, and Character – The Wildcat Way!

“You also see this philosophy instilled in its faculty and staff. When you work at Pearl River, you truly become a part of the Wildcat Family.”

The Outstanding PRCC Employee recognition program was set up to allow anyone in the community to recognize a PRCC employee that goes above and beyond in their duties.

Two students in the program nominated Merritt.

“Ms. Merritt makes sure that every student has what they need to succeed,” said A. Uribe. “She makes class time eventful and fun. Ms. Merritt is an excellent, engaging teacher!”

“Ms. Merritt goes above and beyond to help her students,” said M. Jordan. “She answers all questions promptly. She is more than just an instructor, she’s an extraordinary mentor and shows that she truly wants her students to succeed!”

Anyone wishing to nominate a current PRCC employee can do so monthly through the PRCC website at prcc.edu/nominate-prcc-employee/.
