Hancock County Alumni Scholarships Awarded

Hancock – Tuesday, July 25, 2018, 10 students were honored for each receiving Pearl River Community College Hancock County Alumni Scholarships awarded through the College Foundation to at a dinner hosted by Coast Electric.

The Hancock County Alumni Chapter gave away $15,000 in scholarships to 10 students bound for Pearl River Community College. Coast Electric CEO Jon Barnes congratulated the upcoming freshman on their accolades and offered them advice on balancing their work load in college. Coast Electric has been hosting the scholarship dinner for the last 4 years and the Hancock County Alumni Scholarships have been being offered for the last 25 years.

J. Larry Ladner, alumni officer and 2018 PRCC Hall of Fame inductee, spoke about the important role a college experience can play in the future of these students and recounted instances of his time at PRCC, elaborating on how that time shaped his career and opportunities. He also introduced each scholarship recipient and asked them to express their thanks to those that helped them reach this point. Many students thanked God, family, and friends. Each student also won a PRCC themed door prize

“We try to help as many as we can and we feel like we have the opportunity to give the students a start in their career,” said the President of the Hancock County Alumni Chapter, Frank Ladner.

Dr. Adam Breerwood, President of PRCC, welcomed the scholarship recipients to the Wildcat Family and spoke about the fantastic faculty and staff to which he attributes much of the institution’s success. He also spoke about the importance of scholarships such as these being given when one of the top struggles a college student faces today is student loan debt. Dr. Breerwood thanked the Hancock County Alumni Chapter for giving back to this new generation of wildcats.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
