A student-first mindset has always been at the forefront of Pearl River Community College’s mission. Pearl River is expanding its commitment to the well-being of the Wildcat Family through a new partnership with Gaggle ReachOut, providing students, faculty, and staff with access to trained crisis counselors 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Through ReachOut, members of the PRCC community can connect with a trained crisis counselor whenever they need support, including after normal college operating hours, on weekends, and during holidays. ReachOut offers multiple ways to connect, including phone, text messaging, and secure web chat, allowing individuals to choose the option that is most comfortable and accessible for them. It’s paramount to PRCC that the institution’s students, faculty and staff are supported through the everyday difficulties and unexpected circumstances of life.
College life and the workplace can bring a variety of challenges that may affect an individual’s well-being, including stress, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, financial concerns, and other personal struggles. ReachOut provides an additional resource for immediate, confidential support when someone may need help or simply needs someone to talk to. The Wildcat Family has the trusted reputation of being there for each other through thick and thin and this is just another way that this community is rallying together to make sure everyone within Wildcat Country feels heard and has access to readily available support when they need it.
The addition of ReachOut complements PRCC’s existing mental health and support resources by helping ensure that assistance is available beyond traditional office hours.
Dr. Katerria Grice, Director of Student Services at Pearl River Community College, will oversee the ReachOut service for PRCC.
“What excites me most about bringing ReachOut to Pearl River Community College is knowing that our students, faculty, and staff will have access to support whenever they need it, not just during regular college hours,” Grice said. “Difficult moments do not always happen between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. ReachOut gives us another way to meet the needs of our PRCC community by providing a resource that is available day or night. As Director of Student Services, I am excited to oversee this service and continue strengthening a culture at PRCC where seeking support is encouraged and help is accessible.”
The River is always growing and changing. Whether that be a new building or an expanded resource, the institution always endeavors to be better representing and reaching the students that it serves. ReachOut helps with that mission by providing PRCC with aggregate information regarding service utilization, helping the College better understand the needs of its community and identify opportunities to strengthen mental health education, outreach, and support services.
