Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Thinking about enrolling for next school year? If so, it’s now time to apply for financial aid.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) filing season starts October 1st for each upcoming school year. The FAFSA is a free government application that uses financial information from you and your family to determine whether you can get financial aid from the federal government to pay for college. In some cases, scholarships and state aid also require FAFSA information to determine eligibility.
If you haven’t already done so, the first step is to go to www.studentaid.gov to create an account and password to log in. If you are a dependent student, your parents will also need to create an account.
In many cases, federal tax return information can be shared directly from the IRS to your FAFSA. In other circumstances, information will need to be entered manually onto the application. The FAFSA uses income information from 2 years prior – the year needed will be indicated on the FAFSA form.
The FAFSA needs to be filled out every year you plan to attend college.
If you have questions or concerns about the FAFSA application process, please contact the PRCC Office of Financial Aid for assistance at 601-403-1000 or finaid@prcc.edu. Students can also find information on state aid and scholarship availability and application deadlines by visiting the PRCC Financial Aid webpage at https://prcc.edu/financial-aid/.
Once submitted, students can expect to receive a response from The Office of Financial Aid within 7-10 business days. Our priority deadline for FAFSA processing is June 1 each year.
