Policy:
The use and charging of micromobility devices inside any building or facility on Pearl River Community College campuses are prohibited, except for mobility devices recognized under the Americans with Disabilities Act or for residential students which may be charged in their assigned residences or office rooms. The use of micromobility devices must be done safely and any user of a micromobility device anywhere on a PRCC campus does so at his/her own risk. Operators of any micromobility device are responsible for any injuries or damages caused by or related to their operation of the device.
Procedure:
Examples of micromobility devices include but are not limited to: hoverboards, electric bikes, self-balancing scooters, battery-operated scooters, motorized scooters, and hands-free segways. Students must adhere to the charging guidelines in the PRCC Student Handbook.
Micromobility devices must be registered annually with campus police before use on any PRCC campus. Upon registration, the owner will be issued a permit to operate. Micromobility device operators must adhere to traffic and safety guidelines and are encouraged to remain visible, wear a helmet, and maintain awareness of faster-moving traffic to avoid accidents. When moving among pedestrians, operators of micromobility devices should maintain the speed of the pedestrian traffic. Operators of micromobility devices are responsible for yielding to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Micromobility devices on campus are for single riders only when operated on any PRCC campus.
Micromobility devices left unattended, for prolonged periods, will be subject to a citation or confiscation. Campus Police may refer serious or multiple violations to the Campus Vice President. Employees who violate this Policy will be routed to the appropriate supervisor at each employee’s campus.
The policy and procedures herein apply only to college-owned property, per the jurisdiction of Pearl River Community College.
