POPLARVILLE – Three drum majors lead the Spirit of the River marching band at Pearl River Community College.Taylor Trigg of Petal joined Michael Boyte of Sumrall and Allen Grace of Hattiesburg as drum majors for the 2011 football and parade season. We felt like we needed more field coverage because the band a little larger than last year, said Dr. Kyle Hill, director of bands. It worked out great for us. We have three very talented drum majors.Trigg, who plays clarinet, was drum major at Petal High School during her senior year.I loved it in high school, she said. The experience overall beats everything.Boyte and Grace also were high school drum majors and were selected as Mississippi Lions All-State Band drum majors; Grace in 2009 and Boyte in 2010. Both bands won first place in the Lions international parade competition. Grace plays trombone, and Boyte saxophone. Working with two other drum majors is interesting, Trigg said. It a major effort of team work. In addition to band, Trigg is a member of the RiverRoad showchoir crew and the Baptist Student Union. She is the daughter of Melissa Moore and David Trigg, both of Petal.
