Brett Russ named Outstanding PRCC Employee for October 2022

November 29, 2022

Brett Russ, Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program Records/Technology Assistant at Pearl River Community College, was surprised by several co-workers with the announcement he had been selected as Outstanding PRCC Employee for October 2022. He was presented with certificates containing his nomination information and several goodies in honor of his hard work.

Brett Russ is joined by coworkers and students when he was told about being Outstanding PRCC Employee for October 2022.

Russ is considered an integral part of the ADN program, providing important assistance behind the scenes.

“Brett is truly a big asset, not only to the Nursing Programs but campus-wide,” said ADN Administrative/Admissions Assistant Cathy Dean. “He is always willing to help, and we all depend on him so much.

“We truly could not make it without Brett! We are so proud of him, and he truly deserves this award!”

Dr. Arlene Jones, Director of Nursing Education agrees.

“Brett is more than worthy of being recognized as October’s Outstanding Employee,” said Jones. “He is always willing to assist faculty, staff, and students with any of their technology issues.

“His positive personality is infectious; always has a kind word and smile for everyone. I don’t know anyone more deserving!”

Russ has been at The River since he started as a student in 2009 and held a work-study position in the ADN program. He’s been an employee in the program since Fall of 2012.

“I had no idea I was receiving this award and was more than a little surprised,” said Russ. “I am grateful to receive this honor, but I could not do this without the support of everyone in the Associate Degree Nursing program and our Practical Nursing program. I have been blessed with being able to work with such a wonderful group of faculty and students. A lot of the work I do is behind the scenes so to be recognized for it really means a lot to me.”

He credits PRCC as a place that changes lives for the better, including his own.

“PRCC is an amazing institution that from top to bottom, focuses on the goal of bettering the lives of our students and community. I am thrilled every day to have the chance to give back to the faculty and students of this institution which has done so much for so many people. PRCC truly is like a family to me.”

The Outstanding PRCC Employee recognition program was set up to allow anyone in the community to recognize a PRCC employee that goes above and beyond in their duties.

A coworker and one student in the program nominated Russ in the last two months.

“Brett helps just about every faculty member in the nursing program every day,” said Instructor of Associate Degree Nursing Cindy Skinner. “Since 2020 our Technology has increased astronomically. Brett has helped us with new testing platforms, new simulation labs/manikins and classroom technology from PowerPoints to WebEx.

“He always helps, always smiles. We have 24 faculty on a daily basis and he has to help all of us. We truly could not make it without everything he does for us.”

“Brett is always very helpful and kind,” said student Megan Elam. “He is always available and ready to help with any technological problems students and/or instructors may have. There have been countless times over the past year where I had difficulty with the printer or I had run out of paper and he was able to fix the issue quickly. A few times he even gave me paper so I could print what I needed for class.

“PRCC nursing is very blessed to have Brett to assist with any technical issues.”
