February 12, 2026

Pearl River’s Lunch and Learn series continued to highlight state government with Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch as the speaker on Wednesday, Feb. 11. Before addressing community members and local leaders, Fitch met with Dr. William Lewis Honors Institute students who also held a voter registration drive. Fitch is in her second term, serving as the 40th Attorney General of Mississippi.

Speaking to the honors students, Fitch outlined the structure and mission of her office, highlighting major initiatives in cybercrime, human trafficking, consumer protection, and fentanyl-related dangers. She emphasized partnerships with law enforcement, community groups, and corporations to protect vulnerable Mississippians, especially children and people affected by domestic violence and trafficking.

Fitch urged students to be cautious, informed leaders who use digital tools and resources wisely.

“You need to be ready to stand up for your peers,” said Fitch. “You need to be ready to stand up on this campus on what is right.”

Social media and cybercrime were covered as areas most likely to impact their daily lives.

“I go after social media platforms because I know what they are doing to all of you,” said Fitch. “I understand algorithms. I understand the harm. Anything you put out there is your digital presentation. Once it’s out there, it’s out there forever.

“Be cautious, be engaged with all of your data because they don’t mind collecting it and utilizing it against you in some way, form, or fashion.”

PRCC President Dr. Adam Breerwood introduced Fitch at Lunch and Learn.

“When we think about what we want in somebody that’s representing us … you can see it’s so much about empowering others,” said Breerwood. “It’s about lifting people up.

“We thank you for your leadership, and we are truly blessed to have you to represent the state of Mississippi.”

Addressing local leaders and community members, Fitch echoed the remarks she shared with the students about her role. She then further explored different areas related to protecting citizens and making Mississippi a great place to live. She cited bills that have been enacted and the frequency of other states reaching out to learn how Mississippi is leading in areas like human trafficking and fentanyl.

“The AG’s office affects everybody,” said Fitch. “Our role is, again, important. It’s accountability. It’s enforcement. Again, how do we make a difference in everyone’s lives?

“If you are safe in your environment, education thrives, our economic development thrives. So, we have to have that all rolled out together.”

Fitch closed the event by thanking attendees for all they do, which enables her office with their initiatives.

“There are great things happening in our state,” said Fitch. “Thank you to each of you for making that happen and being a part and always being willing to rise to the cause of action for the better for our stateand may God bless you.”

During both presentations, Fitch encouraged people to download the free AGO in Action app. It provides information on office initiatives, resources such as free naloxone locations, and ways to report scams and access consumer protection tools.

Carol Williams, Interim Director of Poplarville Main Street, and Cassie Aycock from the Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce board provided updates on recent and upcoming events. The sponsors for the event included BankPlus, Mississippi Power, and Wells Insurance, LLC.
