TRANSCRIPTS/ACT*
An ACT composite score of 18 is required to qualify for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. The applicant is responsible for ensuring their high school and previous college (if applicable) transcripts have been received by the PRCC Admissions Office along with their highest ACT composite score. Applicant’s ACT score is part of, and vital to, the selection process.
GED/HiSet
A GED/HiSet Test Result Form with scores must be included if you completed a GED (Diploma Equivalence) program.

You have the option of saving your information once you’ve started the application. This information can be edited and saved, if needed, until the program deadline. Once you have submitted the application, it will no longer be available to edit and you will receive an email confirming that it has been received.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is offered as a one-year (12 months) program, August – July, designed to prepare students for a career as a diagnostic medical sonographer.
Classes are held Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. There are no evening, weekend, online, or hybrid curriculum/courses for this program, and it is offered only on the Hattiesburg campus.
Upon receipt of the application and all required documents, the highest ranking applicants will be contacted to schedule an interview by the PRCC DMS Selection Committee.
- Proof of vision exam with color-blind assessment must be attached to the program application at the time of submission.
– The following courses can be in progress when applying but must be completed with a “C” or higher before the program begins –
- English Comp I or Public Speaking
- College Algebra or a higher Math
- Human Anatomy and Physiology I and Lab or Principles of A&P 1 and Lab
- Human Anatomy and Physiology II and Lab or Principles of A&P 2 and Lab
- Application submission and/or meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.
- Completed file and participation in the interview does not guarantee a position in the class.
- All statements related to admission criteria or announcements of present policies are subject to revisions.
- Any advice the Diagnostic Medical Sonography department gives regarding coursework does not ensure acceptance into the program.
- All PRCC Allied Health students are subject to random drug screening at any time during the course of the program and must have a negative result. The student will be responsible for all associated costs after the required screening at the beginning of the program.
- Allied Health students may be exposed to various bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, blood and other bodily fluids. Universal and Standard Precautions, as well as PPE (personal protective equipment), will be used during clinical portions of the program.
- Health Care Criminal History Background Check: Applicants for PRCC Allied Health programs are required to submit fingerprints for a Criminal Background Check in accordance with Mississippi State Law. This process may be required by clinical sites. If any student is found to have a disqualifying event on their background check, they may be prohibited from attending clinicals and therefore, will not meet clinical criteria and will not be allowed to continue in the program.
Post Acceptance
Upon acceptance into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, the student must pass a background check as well as a drug screening.
