LPN to ADN Day – Requirements

Admission into PRCC does not mean the student has been admitted into the ADN program.

In addition to all PRCC admission requirements, the ADN program has a separate admission process with program specific requirements as listed below: 

Applicant must attach the following documents in the online ADN application before submitting by the deadline:

• Driver’s license
• NACE Entrance Exam score report (in person exams are preferred, scores are good for one year and must not expire prior to the application deadline)
• Current unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license
• Completed LPN Employer Verification Form
• LPN to ADN applicant with less than one (1) year experience, must submit two (2) letters of recommendation. One letter from a past PN clinical instructor and another from a current employment supervisor who can validate PN experience.
• LPN to ADN applicant who was not successful in a similar transition program or who has a lapse in practice longer than two years is not eligible to apply for the LPN to ADN Day option of the PRCC ADN program (if interested, see Traditional ADN option).

Applicant must submit to PRCC Admissions the following prior to the ADN application deadline:

• Official ACT scores (from high school transcript or ACT.org report only)
• Official college transcript(s) from all colleges previously attended other than PRCC
• High school transcript from an accredited high school or GED test score, if never attended college

NOTE: All documents must be legible with the applicant’s name and any other required information. Applications submitted without the above documentation are considered incomplete and are not reviewed for admission.

LPN to ADN Day – Admission Criteria:

• ACT Requirements
  • Composite/Superscore of 16 or higher, 18 or higher preferred.
  • Applicants without an ACT composite/superscore of 18 or higher must have successfully completed (a grade of “C” or higher) a minimum of 12 hours in the ADN general education courses to include A&P I with lab and A&P II with lab at the time of application.
  • The Associate Degree Nursing program requires applicants to also complete the optional science section of the ACT as part of the admission process.
  • An applicant who has previously earned a baccalaureate (Bachelor’s Degree) or higher degree (must be from an accredited school) may enter without an ACT.
• Grade Point Average Requirements
  • 2.0 or higher, a GPA of 2.5 or higher is preferred.
  • GPA is only calculated on completed ADN general education courses at the time of application outlined in the curriculum.
  • If ACT composite/superscore is 16 or 17, applicant must have GPA of 2.5 at the time of application.
• Entrance Exam Score Requirements – NLN Nursing Acceleration Challenge Examination (NACE):
  • NACE entrance exam minimum score accepted is 55%. 
  • Follow instructions to register www.nlntest.org – payment of $70 must be made at the time of registration. We prefer NACE be taken in person at a proctored facility, online proctored exams are acceptable.
  • You will get your NACE score same day as testing, can retest as often as needed, follow their policy on waiting period if applicable.
  • Upload NACE score to application. NOTE: Name, date and score should appear on report.
  • Scores are valid for one year from date taken and must not expire prior to the application deadline.

NOTE: Applications submitted without meeting all of the above documentation and criteria are not eligible for admission and application will not be processed.

LPN to ADN Day – Curriculum:

If selected, acceptance into PRCC ADN program is contingent on successful completion of required courses (pre-requisites) at the start of the program. The applicant must have completed with a grade of “C” or higher: College Algebra, General Psychology, and Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab. Some of these may have pre-requisites that must be completed first.

The remaining ADN co-requisite general education courses must be completed either prior to or during the ADN Level listed below with a grade of “C” or higher in order to progress to the next level and/or graduate.

ADN Nursing courses must be completed during the Level listed below with a grade of “B” or higher to progress to the next level and/or graduate.

Students applying to PRCC on or after Fall 2020 are required to complete a LLS Orientation course prior to graduation.

Additional Information: NUR 1207 – LPN Bridge
The NUR 1207 course is designed to enhance the knowledge the LPN gained in a practical nursing (PN) program, especially the practice of medical/surgical nursing; to assist the student with transition into the registered nurse role; and to prepare the student for progression into Level 3 & 4 of the Traditional option of the ADN program.
Students entering the ADN program as a licensed practical nurse (LPN), must successfully (“B or higher”) complete the LPN Bridge course (NUR 1207) and will be awarded the seven (7) semester hours credit. The remaining required nursing course hours of Level 1 and 2 will be waived after successful completion of Level 3 (NUR 2109 & 2203) and Level 4 (NUR 2209).

Prerequisites to the LPN Bridge course includes: BIO 2511, BIO 2513, MAT 1313, and PSY 1513.

Application Selection:
Admission to the nursing program is based on a selective process. Applicants are ranked using a points system based on objective data including ADN applicant’s high school or college GPA (Applicants with 2.5 or higher GPA will be considered first), ACT score (Applicants with an 18 or higher ACT composite/super score will be considered first), Entrance Exam score, completed ADN general education courses (Required science and math courses will receive additional points), and allied health certification (documentation required). Preferential consideration is given to in-district residents (Forrest, Hancock, Jeff Davis, Lamar, Marion and Pearl River counties), followed by out-of-district residents and out-of-state residents.
Decision letters are sent via PRCC student email to all applicants by April 15 for Fall admission, November 15 for Spring admission.

1. Acceptance letter-Applicant is being selected for provisional admission into the program based upon space availability, criminal background check clearance, substance screen verification, and ability to meet other clinical requirements (See ADN Student Handbook).
2. Alternate letter-All qualified applicants not selected for provisional admission will be placed on a wait list for that semester only. Alternates may be selected if space becomes available and will be notified via phone call and email. If not notified by the start of the semester, application will be voided and student may reapply next application period.
3. Declination letter-Applicants not meeting eligibility requirements for provisional admission may reapply next application period

NOTE: All newly accepted students are required to attend a mandatory orientation prior to starting the ADN program.
