ADN FAQ

No. You only need the exam that is required for the specific program you are applying to:

• Traditional ADN option: Take the TEAS exam.
• LPN to ADN options: Take the NACE exam.
• LPN applicants wishing to apply to both options (LPN to ADN and Traditional) will need to take both the NACE and TEAS exam.

No. Students with a bachelors degree or higher from an accredited school do not require an ACT Score.  You will automatically receive equivalent points to an 18 ACT score during the application process.  

However, you should submit your official ACT scores to PRCC Admissions if you scored greater than a 18 composite/superscore as you will receive more points during the application process.

You can request your scores in two ways:

• High School Transcript: Ask your high school to send your ACT scores with your transcript to PRCC Admissions. This is the fastest and cheapest option.
• ACT Website: Order your official reports from ACT.org be sent directly to PRCC.
• Note: Archived ACT scores can take up to 8 weeks to arrive and require additional fee. Missing the deadline is the #1 reason applications are delayed or ineligible.

No. Applications close at midnight on the posted deadline.

To avoid disqualification:

• Check Your Work: Review all instructions and upload all required documents before submitting.
• Watch Your Email: If information is missing, we will attempt to contact you.
• Act Quickly: We operate on a very tight processing timeframe; incomplete files will be marked ineligible.

Yes, we encourage you to apply to multiple options-such as PRCC ADN, PRCC PN, or other colleges – to increase your chances of acceptance.

Yes. You must submit your current official transcript to Admissions so we can verify your completed general education grades and check for prior nursing program enrollment.

• However, PRCC cannot process “In Progress” courses. Once your current classes end, you must submit a final official transcript to Admissions so all of your grades can be added to Degree Works.

Yes. You must provide a letter from your previous Dean or Director of Nursing stating you are eligible for immediate return with no disciplinary issues. Without a letter, or if not eligible, you will have a 3-year waiting period from the exit date of your previous program to apply to PRCC ADN.

Exception: You do not need a letter if you successfully completed a Practical Nursing program and have earned your LPN license after leaving the RN program.

No. All students must follow the program of study outlined in the curriculum.

Yes. We offer two student organizations:

• Alpha Delta Nu (Beta Mu): An invitation-only honor society. Members receive certificate, cord, pin, and distinguished honors at the pinning ceremony.
• MOSA: A community-focused group open to all students for a membership fee. Members participate in health fairs and community events for credit hours, earning certificate, medal, cord, and ceremony honors.

• PRCC students pay college tuition and ADN program fees
• College Tuition: $1,850 per semester for full-time, in-state students. Tuition will vary for part-time enrollment and out-of-state students.
• ADN Program Fee: $1,450 per semester for all students admitted to the program.
• Students may need to maintain full-time status to remain eligible for financial aid and scholarships.
• The ADN Student handbook also lists some additional out-of-pocket and other level-specific expenses.

Yes. PRCC offers a variety of scholarships for nursing students.

To qualify and stay informed:

• Apply for FAFSA: Fill out your financial aid application early, as most ADN scholarships require it.
• Attend ADN Orientation: Specific nursing scholarship options will be discussed at orientation.
• Once in the program, Nurse Navigators are a good resource to help students with specific scholarship opportunities.
• Check Canvas: New scholarship opportunities are posted as they become available.

Yes, but transfers are subject to space availability and accepted only if you meet all of the following strict criteria:

 Deadlines & Eligibility

• Deadlines: Submit by February 1^st for Fall admission and September 1^st for Spring admission.
• No Course Failures: If you have failed any nursing course at another school, you are ineligible to transfer nursing course (if you meet the criteria, may apply as a new student to Traditional ADN option).
• Recency: Course must have been completed one year or less prior to application.
• Fundamentals Only: Only fundamentals or a course similar in content is allowed to be transferred. Course must be consistent with PRCC ADN program curriculum in theory content and clinical requirements.
• No Life Experience: Credit is never awarded for life or work experience.
• Conduct: Entry can be denied based on past unprofessional conduct, even if all other criteria are met.

Required Application Documents

You must email adn@prcc.edu to request a Transfer Application. You must upload these documents with online application:

• Official transcripts and ACT scores (sent to Admissions prior to application deadline)
• Detailed course syllabus and description
• Detailed clinical evaluation 
• Letter of recommendation and good standing from your previous Dean or Director

Competency Testing:

Before credit is finalized, you must demonstrate your skills by:

• Meeting the benchmark score on a Fundamentals exam.
• Demonstrating hands-on competency on critical nursing behaviors.

Note: Upon review, you may still be required to take additional coursework to meet PRCC graduation requirements. 

Pearl River Community College provides extensive academic, practical and personal support to guide you through the nursing program.

Available resources include:

• Academic Support: One-on-one guidance from Nurse Navigators, nursing instructors, and academic advising.
• Remediation & Tutoring: Customized remediation services and tutoring opportunities to keep your grades on track.
• Hands-on Training: Participate in patient-centered skills labs, realistic simulation, and hospital clinical  experiences designed to strengthen clinical competence, enhance critical thinking, and build confidence in delivering safe, effective patient care.
• Exam Preparation: NCLEX-RN preparation tools and study resources designed to prepare you for licensing.
• Flexible Learning: Online course materials accessible both on and off campus.

After you have started the program, you are required to pass general education courses before or during the nursing program in the order they are listed in the program of study. If you fail or withdraw from a corequisite general education course, you are not eligible to progress in nursing. You can defer nursing up to two consecutive semesters as outlined in the ADN handbook while you retake the corequisite general education course and pass with a “C” or higher grade, then you can progress in the nursing program. If you are not eligible to defer, then you would need to withdraw from nursing.

All nursing courses require a “B” grade or higher to pass. If you fail or withdraw, your eligibility to repeat the course depends on your specific program option and space availability.

Traditional ADN Option: Students are permitted to one readmission to levels 1,2, or 3, and then one readmission into Level 4, and require that you do not have any disciplinary issues.

LPN to ADN Options: Students failing or withdrawing from Level 2 (NUR 1207) are not eligible to re-enter in transition program, you may reapply as a new student to the Traditional ADN option only. Students are permitted to repeat a nursing course one time during each of Levels 3 & 4.

Yes! After graduation and passing your licensing exam (NCLEX-RN), Registered Nurses may enroll in a Bachelor of Science (BSN) program.

Most universities offer flexible RN to BSN pathways designed specifically for working nurses to earn their BSN while continuing employment.

• General Campus or Nursing Tour: Visit the PRCC homepage, scroll to the bottom, and click “Plan a Visit”. You can request a general campus tour, a nursing tour or both.
• Nursing Lab Experience: The nursing tour includes exploring our labs and meeting one-on-one with the Nurse Navigator to discuss admissions, resources, and expectations.
• Information Sessions: Check the PRCC ADN website for upcoming dates, times, and campus locations. No registration is required to attend.

No. Clinical assignments are based on facility availability of our approved healthcare sites and can be within a 70-mile radius of your home campus. These are assigned by nursing faculty.
