Criminal Justice

Program Information

Criminal Justice is inter-disciplinary in nature, meaning it consists of many areas of academic influence such as law, psychology, sociology and political science. More specifically, Criminal justice is the study of crime control and the justice system through the lens of law enforcement, courts, and correctional agencies, while Criminology is the study of crime and criminal behavior, focusing on the causes of criminal behavior through the use of scientific methodology.

Graduates of Pearl River Community College who have majored in criminal justice or criminology have gone on to continue their education at Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU and William Carey; serve their communities with agencies such as Hattiesburg Police, Picayune Police, Gulfport Police and the Lamar County Sheriff’s office; as well as graduate school or law school at universities such as Southern Miss, Florida State, and Ole Miss School of Law.
