Program Information
The Welding & Cutting Technology program prepares students for high-demand careers in welding, fabrication, manufacturing, construction, shipbuilding, and other skilled trades. Students receive hands-on training in a variety of welding and cutting processes while developing the technical skills, safety practices, and problem-solving abilities employers are looking for.
Whether you are interested in building structures, fabricating equipment, working in shipyards, manufacturing products, or pursuing a specialized welding career, the Welding & Cutting Technology program provides the hands-on training and technical foundation to help you get there.
Students interested in the Welding & Cutting Technology program on the Poplarville campus need to complete the interest survey to be considered for placement in the program.
Hancock and Forrest County students do not need to complete an interest survey.

Your natural abilities
- Reading a ruler to 1/16
- Adding and subtracting simple fractions
- Listening and following directions
Classroom knowledge
- Perform vertical & overhead (3G & 4G) limited thickness qualification tests on steel plate with SMAW process
- Perform fillet welds (3F & 4F) & open root v-groove (3G & 4G) on plain carbon steel with GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW processes
- 6G guided bend test on open root V-Groover pipe using the GTAW process and E-7018 electrodes
- Perform welding operations to prepare welded fabrications from sketches or drawings created by instructor

Careers include but are not limited to work in power plants, assimilated production, pressure vessels, shipyards, pipeline, offshore, and oil refineries.
