The Education Achievement Council was created by the Mississippi Legislature in 2010 (HB 1071) and was assigned the task of setting education achievement goals for the state, as well as monitoring progress towards those goals through required institutional and state report cards.
The Presidents and Institutional Research/Effectiveness Officers at all 15 Mississippi community colleges are working to develop the Community College Report Card. The measures used for the Report Card will be closely aligned with the Voluntary Framework of Accountability developed by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and will be designed to reflect the unique mission of Community Colleges. Community colleges are open-admission and therefore educate students from diverse economic, educational, and demographic backgrounds who might not otherwise have access to higher education. Many community college students must overcome significant barriers to achieve their educational goals. They may be economically disadvantaged, academically under-prepared, or they may be working adult students who attend part-time while also holding jobs and taking care of their families.
