127 PRCC students receive “Round Up for Education” scholarships

POPLARVILLE, Miss – Pearl River Community College and Pearl River Valley Electric Power Association came together Thursday to celebrate 127 PRCC students receiving scholarships through the “Round Up for Education” program.

“We are so grateful to all of you,” PRCC President Adam Breerwood said. “Our campus is very diverse and we know that this program is a commitment to their education.”

“We’ve been able to provide scholarship to 1,300 students by raising approximately $1.3 million in funds,” General Manager for PRVEPA Randy Wallace said. “All this money is provided by our members. There are some parents sitting here today. I thank them for their participation because it couldn’t be done without the parents

Each student received $500 totaling to $53,500 in scholarship funds.

“I’m so grateful,” scholarship recipient Lauren Sumrall said. “ They are investing in so many people they don’t even know.”

Ten percent of the money generated through the program is put into a fund managed by the Pinebelt Foundation which will allow future deserving community college students the ability to receive these financial aid opportunities.
