POPLARVILLE Pearl River Community College swept Southwest Mississippi with pair of dominating shutouts in MACJC South Division women and men soccer action here Wednesday. PRCC women were 4-0 winners and improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in division play, while its men are now 6-3 and 2-1. SMCC women dropped to 1-7, while its men are 0-6. Both Bear squads remain winless in league play at 0-3. In women action, the two teams battled to a scoreless stalemate at the intermission before the Lady Wildcats quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the second half. Emmaleigh Davis, a sophomore transfer from the University of Memphis who prepped at Resurrection Catholic High in Pascagoula, got The River rolling with a goal with 42:54 remaining off an assist by sophomore Jordan Organ of Forrest County AHS. Fifty-three seconds later, Stephanie Fratesi, a sophomore from Leland who prepped at Washington School in Greenville, scored an unassisted goal to make it 2-0 PRCC. Sophomore Carleigh Holley of Tupelo High added a score at the 29:52 mark, while sophomore Ashlee Arnau of Oak Grove High ended the scoring with 12:01 left. In men action, Pearl River led 4-0 at the break before bombing Southwest with five goals in the second half. Freshman Garrett Head of Oak Grove High paced Wildcat scoring with three goals, while freshman Kent Milsap of Laurel High and freshman James Zanelli of Essex, U.K., added two each. Sophomore Jeramey Anderson of Moss Point High and freshman Pacer Frierson of Picayune Memorial High had solo scores. PRCC and SMCC eye division rematches Friday, Oct. 14, in Summit (1 p.m. women, 3 p.m. men). Pearl River returns to action Friday when MACJC South Division rival Jones County plays host Friday in Ellisville at 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men) before non-division foe Holmes hosts Friday, Sept. 30, in Ridgeland with 2 p.m. (women) and 4 p.m. (men) contests.
