River sweeps Southwest

SUMMIT Pearl River swept Southwest Mississippi here Friday in MACJC women and men South Division soccer action with a pair of lopsided shutouts. The division champ Lady Wildcats blanked the Lady Bears 6-0 to improve to 13-1 overall and 7-0 in league play, while the Wildcats were 9-0 winners and are now 9-4-1 and 5-1-1. SMCC women dropped to 3-12 and 1-6, while its men fell to 1-14 and 1-6. PRCC men remain in the post-season hunt and can clinch a berth in Oct. 22-23''s MACJC State Tournament with a victory over division rival Jones County Wednesday in Poplarville. In the women game, Pearl River led 3-0 at the intermission before bounding back with three more in the second half to take the victory. Emmaleigh Davis, a University of Memphis transfer who prepped at Ressurection Catholic High in Pascagoula, led PRCC with two goals one in each of the halves off assists by Ana Lee of Picayune Memorial High while Ashlee Arnau of Oak Grove High scored one, Havanah Gholer of Oak Grove High one, Lee one, and Jordan Organ of Forrest County AHS one. Organ also had assists on goals by Arnau and Lee, while Britni Polderman of Picayune Memorial High assisted on Gholar score. In the men game, the Wildcats jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead at the break, then pounded the host Bears for five unanswered goals in the second half. James Zanelli of Essez, U.K., paced PRCC with three goals, while Pacer Frierson of Picayune Memorial High and Garrett Head of Oak Grove High added two each. Jeramey Anderson of Moss Point High, Tyler Hatch out of East Central High in Hurley, Ronnie Tisdale of Pascagoula High, all had one each. Head led the way with a whopping four assists, including three in the first half, while Zanelli had three all in the first half. Frierson, Hatch, and Jered Foulon of Pearl River Central High all had one assist a piece. Wednesday JCJC match ups are set for 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men). The upcoming MACJC State Tournament will be played at the home field of the North Division men champion. The top two women and men finishers in the North and South Divisions earn berths in the tournament. The Region 23 Tournament is set for Oct. 30-31 at the MACJC women champion home field. The Lady Wildcats have won state championships in 2005 under then-coach Patrick Hayes and 2009 under current coach Jack Byrd, while the Wildcats copped an MACJC title in 2003 under then-coach Adam Breerwood.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.
