River sweeps Perk

PERKINSTON — Pearl River Community College’s women’s and men’s soccer teams swept Mississippi Gulf Coast here Wednesday in MACJC South Division action with the Lady Wildcats taking a 4-0 victory, while the Wildcats took a 3-2 come-from-behind win.

PRCC’s men, who improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in division play, are now one win away from clinching the division championship and hosting rights to Oct. 20-21's MACJC State Tournament. PRCC’s women are 7-1 and 4-1.

The host Lady Bulldogs dropped to 6-3 and 2-3, while the Bulldogs are 4-5-2 and 3-1.

Millie Barr of Oak Grove High and Brooke Blackledge of Northeast Jones High scored first-half goals for Pearl River to grab a 2-0 lead at the intermission, while Presley Stigletts of Oak Grove High and Karly Mitchell of Poplarville High booted goals in the second half.

Kacy Mixon out of East Central High in Hurley had two assists for the Lady Wildcats, while Chelsea Parsons of Biloxi High had one.

Goalkeeper Hannah McCarty recorded her fourth shutout of the season.

In the men’s game, Gulf Coast led 2-1 at the half, but Pearl River rallied with a 2-1 advantage in the second to take the victory.

Mike Allizzo of Ocean Springs High scored early in the the first half before added The River’s first goal in the second some eight minutes in. Garrett Head of Oak Grove High scored the game-winning goal at the 33:05 mark.

Mississippi Gulf Coast’s men scorers were unavailable.

Pearl River swept the Bulldog squads by identical 3-1 scores in games played Sept. 8 in Poplarville.

PRCC returns to action Saturday when South Division foe Southwest Mississippi visits Poplarville with contests at 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (men) in the last regular-season home games of the 2012 season. The River then travels to Copiah-Lincoln in Wesson for a pair of division match ups Tuesday at 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men) before wrapping up the regular season against division rival Jones County in Ellisville Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the same game times.

Each community college president is asked to bring two (2) wrapped door prizes, minimum value of $50 each. We will have a station set up at the conference for you to drop off the door prizes.

Each community college is asked to provide name tags for their Board members, administration, and staff attending the conference.
