MOORHEAD Pearl River Wildcats swept winless MACJC non-division rival Mississippi Delta here Tuesday, taking 8-5 and 5-2 victories to improve to 10-2 overall. The host Trojans dropped to 0-6 on the year. In the first game, PRCC went up 1-0 in the top of the opening inning, but MDCC bounced back to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame before the Wildcats blew it open with five runs in the top of the second. Each team scored solo runs in the third to make it 7-3 Pearl River. The Wildcats scored their final run in the top of the fourth, while the Trojans scored solo runs in the sixth and seventh. Starter Josh Hubbell (1-1) of Forrest County AHS got the win in his five-and-two-thirds innings on the mound, giving up seven hits, striking out six, and walking four; while Carlos Rios of Oak Grove High relieved in the sixth and went two-thirds of an inning, giving up a hit and walking a batter. Jared Bond of Denham Springs (La.) High relieved in the seventh and got the final two outs. He gave up one hit. Delta starter Jonathan Parker pitched the first, giving up six hits, striking out one, and walking three before Brett White arrived to the mound. He gave up one hit, struck out two, walked two, and hit a batter. Jordan Williams out of Christian County High in Hopkinsville, Ky., paced the Wildcats seven-hit effort with two doubles; while Jose Sola of Aguadilla, P.R., and Casey Comfort of Oak Grove High both doubled. Chase Lewallen of Sumrall High and Grae Orman of Clinton High both had singles. MDCC finished with nine hits, led by Corbin Moore and Alan Tyson with two singles each. Will Sanders and D.J. Elkins both had doubles, while Hunter Bolden, Caleb Haley, and Matt Roberts all singled. The River committed one error in the game to Delta two. In the second game, the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and maintained that narrow edge until the Trojans went up 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. PRCC added two in the top of the fifth and two in the seventh to take the 5-2 victory. Blake Juneau (2-1) of Marksville (La.) High got the win after relieving in the fourth. He pitched three-and-one-thirds innings, giving up two hits and striking out five, while starter Ramsey Graham of Pearl River Central High went two-and-two-thirds, giving up two hits, striking out two, walking three, and hitting a batter. Delta starter Andrew Alias got the loss in his four-and-two-thirds innings of action, giving up five hits, striking out seven, and walking two; while Will Patton relieved in the fifth, giving up three hits, striking out four, and walking two. Matt Magee of Petal High led the Wildcats eight-hit attack with two home runs (three RBIs), while B.J. Smith of Sumrall High tripled and singles, Dakota Baker of Purvis High doubled and singled, and Davonte Lanier of Wayne County High and Aaron Lee of Pearl River Central High both had base hits. Mississippi Delta finished with four hits all singles from Bolden, Hanley, Moore, and Tyson all with singles. The River committed one error in the game to Delta two. Pearl River hosts East Mississippi Saturday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader, then it a River-Mississippi Delta rematch Tuesday in Poplarville (4 p.m. doubleheader).
