POPLARVILLE Pearl River Lady Wildcats pulled off 3-0, 3-1 victories over Copiah-Lincoln in MACJC South Division softball action here Saturday to improve to 11-12 overall and 3-3 in division play with the doubleheader sweep. The visiting Lady Wolfpack, on the other hand, dropped to 12-14 and 3-7. In the first game, Co-Lin loaded the bases in the first and second innings, but couldnt push a run home. PRCC starter Heather Hester of Hancock County High gave up three straight base hits to Emily Smith, Josie Porter, and Karla Beth Hux open the first; but got out of the jam when Carrie Moak reached on a fielder choice and Shelby Mitchell hit into a double play. In the bottom of the first, Janessa Dedeaux of Poplarville High cracked a one-out double to left field and Hester followed with a line-drive single; but the duo were left stranded. In the top of the second, lead off Tammy Alford singled, Bobbie Cochran walked, and Brandi Davis reached on an error an out later with Alford being thrown out at home. Smith up-the-middle base hit loaded the bases before Hester struck out Porter to end the threat. In the bottom of the frame, Chistina Hart out of Northshore High in Slidell, La., led off with a solo homer over the center field fence to make it 1-0, then Morghan Cuevas of Purvis High walked, moved to second off a sac bunt by Amanda Emerson of Sumrall High, and Whitney Waits of Oak Grove High outran a bunt for a base hit an out later. After Waits stole second, Dedeaux grounded to short for the final out. After a scoreless third, PRCC scored the game final runs in the bottom of the fourth when Emerson reached after being hit by a pitch, ETrareo Warren of Meridian High reached on a fielder choice, and scored when Waits wound up at second after another fielder choice. Dedeaux ensuing double down the third-base line scored Waits to make to 3-0 before Hester grounded to second to end the inning. Co-Lin managed only three base runners the rest of the way. Hester (4-2) got the win in going the distance, giving up six hits, striking out one, and walking two; while CLCC starter Sarah Anthony (8-8) picked up the loss. She also went the distance, giving up five hits, striking out four, walking two, and hitting a batter. Smith led the Lady Wolves six-hit effort with a pair of singles, while Alford, Hux, Shelby Mitchell, and Porter all had base hits. Dedeaux two doubles (one RBI) led the Lady Wildcats, while Hart homered (one RBI) and Hester and Waits (one RBI) both had base hits. Each team committed one error in the game. In the nightcap, Pearl River threatened in the three innings. In the bottom of the opening frame, Waits and Dedeaux led off with singles before Hester reached on a fielder choice. Alyssa Graeter followed with a double to left before Dedeaux was nailed at home for the second out. With runners at second and third, Brittany LeBlanc out of North Vermillion High in Lafayette, La., grounded out to third to end the inning. In the bottom of the second, Hart led off with a walk, while Emerson doubled to right an out later. After Warren reached on a fielder choice, Emerson was thrown out at third to end the inning. The Lady Wildcats loaded the corners in the bottom of third when Dedeaux led off with a single, Graeter reached on a fielder choice an out later, LeBlanc singled to center, and Hart reached on an error before Cuevas hit into a force out to end the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, The River finally cashed in. Emerson led off with a single to left, Warren reached on an error, and Waits reached on a fielder choice. With runners at first and third, Warren scored off a double steal before Dedeaux singled to left, setting the stage for Hester RBI single. After Graeter singled to load the bases, LeBlanc reached on a fielder choice and PRCC scored its final run off a wild pitch before Hart fouled out to end the inning. Co-Lin scored its only run of the afternoon in the top of the sixth when Porter and Hux cracked one-out singles and Ashley McCaffery followed with an RBI double. The River left runners at first and third in the bottom of the inning, while the Lady Wolfpack managed a base runner in the top of the seventh. Starter LeBlanc (3-4) picked up the win in going the distance, giving up six hits and striking out four; while CLCC starter Chynna Coghlan (0-4) was the losing pitcher. Coghlan went four-and-two-thirds, giving up 10 hits, walking one, and hitting a batter; before Anthony arrived in relief. Anthony gave up three hits and recorded a strike out. Co-Lin finished with six hits, led by Porter two singles, while McCaffery doubled (one RBI) and Hux, Mitchell, and Kaitlin Moak all had base hits. Pearl River cracked a whopping 13 hits, led by Dedeaux four-for-four effort (all singles), while Emerson and Graeter both had doubles and singles. Waits had two base hits, while Hart, Hester (one RBI), and LeBlanc all singled. CLCC committed two errors in the game to PRCC one. Pearl River and Co-Lin eye a division doubleheader rematch when the Lady Wolves play host Tuesday, April 17, in Wesson. The Lady Wildcats return to South Division action Tuesday when they host Jones County in a 4 p.m. doubleheader, while Southwest Mississippi visits Thursday for a 2 p.m. make-up twin bill (originally scheduled for March 9, but was rained out). Division foe Hinds visits Lady Wildcat Stadium Friday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. Last Wednesday (March 21) rained out twin bill with Mississippi Gulf Coast at Perkinston has yet to be rescheduled.
