PRCC: Sign up underway for CCMA program

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Pearl River Community College is currently accepting applications for its next Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) program.

CCMA is a 500-hour program made up of both classroom and clinical hours. Classes meet Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The course begins Monday, Aug. 24 and ends Dec. 18. The course fee is $1,000.

CCMA is a training course sponsored by PRCC’s Workforce Education program and is not eligible for college credit. Completion of the course will prepare the student to sit for the National Health Career Association certification exam.

All classes are taught at the Lowery Woodall Advanced Technology Center located in the Forrest County Industrial Park.

After several months off due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Terri Clark, Dean of Workforce and Community Development at PRCC, said the school is resuming essential training, focusing on healthcare needs.

“We will be using CDC guidelines in our classrooms,” she said. “Our goal in CCMA, as well as all our Workforce programs, is to prepare students for the workforce by training job and employability skills.”

The CCMA program graduated its first class in March.

A medical assistant is a multi-skilled health care professional who specializes in procedures commonly performed in the ambulatory health-care setting. Medical assistants perform both clinical and administrative duties and assist a variety of providers including physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

To be considered for a program interview, a complete application packet is required. There is a program prerequisites list to follow. Interviews will be scheduled for applicants with completed packets only.

Application packets are accepted on Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Woodall Center. For more information, call 601-554-4646.
