PRCC names Barnes director at Hancock Center

WAVELAND - Raymunda Barnes has been named director of Pearl River Community College Hancock Center in Waveland.Barnes, who has been the Hancock Center lead instructor for four years, will move into his new position on July 1.I feel that for the past four years I have been part of a team that devoted a lot of time and effort to education in Hancock County, he said. I plan to continue on with the mission of the college and enhance what already been done.Enrollment at the Hancock Center has increased each semester since the low point after Hurricane Katrina flooded it and many students were forced to drop out of school. A record 331 students enrolled at the Hancock Center for the fall 2010 semester and the number is expected to exceed that mark this year.A graduate of DIberville High School, Barnes holds the bachelor degree in history from Alcorn State University and a master degree in education with an emphasis in history from William Carey University. He is currently working on a doctor degree in Christian education at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.Barnes taught at the Gulfport Job Corps Center and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College before coming to PRCC.Raymunda Barnes has served the college with outstanding leadership as the lead instructor for the Hancock Center, said Dr. William Lewis, PRCC president. Mr. Barnes is an excellent classroom instructor with a passion for and commitment to the continuous improvement of the teaching_learning process.He has been an integral part of the leadership team that led our Hancock Center to recovery from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He is a true professional with a big vision for the future development of Pearl River Community College commitment to providing quality higher education programs and services to the citizens of the Hancock County area.As director, Barnes succeeds Maggie Smith, who is transferring to a position at PRCC Poplarville campus.
